After a little break SkillShare returned to The Railway Tavern for SkillShare July.
Our variety of talks included Diego Pedauye showing his illustrations for t-shirts, some sites for submitting designs and advice in preparing work for submission. We also had a live demonstration of the awesome Marvel App by Andreea Ardelean and some great design work from Alex Lasek.

After a great demo from an Academy Class expert, we opened the floor to a few designers to show their work and take questions. We then had the prize draw in which a £500 Create Cloud account was awarded along with some other great prizes. View more pictures and reviews here
This event was inspired by the digital painter Nadja Ryzhakova, who contacted us with the intention of demonstrating her works and techniques.

Our other speakers were James Northcote with some demonstrations of his vector illustrations and Heiko Winter’s introduction to After Effects, both very interesting.

In our 3rd event we moved once more to The Railway Tavern pub at Liverpool St. The event was hosted on February 10th following a break in January.
In the opening demo, we looked at a combination of new CC features, including vector tools in Illustrator, linking files in Photoshop and a review of the image assets tool for websites. This led to some useful links relating to these features also.
Erlen Masson talked through some Illustrator tips used when making his character designs before we looked as some interesting uses of the puppet tool in Photoshop. Ollie Saunders talked through using templates with Mustache JS and we looked at examples of the CSS calc function in use.
Finishing on the the more fun tutorial in creating cinemagraphs in Photoshop we wrapped up and completed our insect drawings. A full list of links as always is shared with the event attendees.

In the follow-up event to the group’s launch we moved to the Golden Lion pub near Green Park and hosted on Tuesday December 10th 2103.
The first 10 attendees were given custom made creative software badges as a freebie as well as the standard form, this month drawing lions!
After a quick demo in drawing with Illustrator using the pathfinder tool, there were a few extra tips shared by Edu Fuentes, we looked at motion tracking using After Effects before Alex Zeeman showed some simple Cinema 4D tricks. There was a step guide in digital painting from Petra and an explanation of animations in CSS.
Professional photographer Sebastien Degardin talked us through tips to maintain accurate colours in photographs and all creative work and there was a roundup of interesting links.

The opening SkillShare event was hosted on Nov 4th 2013 at the Theodore Bullfrog pub in central London. It was a chance to introduce the meetup group’s concept and meet the first attendees and demonstrators.
After a quick demo in a fake 3D effect it was the turn of Jeff Osborne to demonstrate some previous projects and techniques for creating works in Cinema 4D.
Further demos looked at the image assets feature in new versions of Photoshop CC and a tip for effortlessly removing people from photographs. We also looked at creating interactive PDFs in InDesign and the touch type tool in Illustrator CC. There was also a fascinating new trick shown by Micol Montesanti in creating an ombro-cinema images in Illustrator.
The event ended with some helpful links shared and the group completing themed sketches of Penguins. The first 10 visitors received a Photoshop shortcuts handout also.

The SkillShare meetup was inspired by the common desire by designers and creatives to learn new skiils and diversify their abilities.
Mala Sharma explained it perfectly in defending Adobe’s decision to switch to the creative cloud, stating:
“Graphic designers were being asked by clients to start building websites. Or they’d be asked by clients: ‘Hey, I don’t just want a magazine, how do I get on the iPad?’ Photographers who were looking for new ways of building their business wanted to start dabbling in video because DSLR cameras were starting to shoot video. Web developers were being challenged by responsive web design. Videographers were constantly being pressured because standards were moving so quickly. In other words, all our creative professional customers were struggling with keeping up to date.”
